Get the speed you need with our new Linux portfolio

Mobile app developers are obsessed with speed for one simple reason - their customers are too!

We expect a lot from the apps we use. They've got to load super fast, always stay up to date, and offer a steady stream of valuable features. For developers, this means relentless pressure to reduce build times and drive efficiency to stay competitive.

There are many ways developers can work to improve build speed, such as using a solid CI/CD platform (like Bitrise), automating test processes, and applying the latest optimization strategies like build caching and parallelization.

However, even if you take all the best measures, you can only build as fast as your processing power allows. If the machines you run your builds on are not up to the task, there will always be a limit to how fast you can go.

Fortunately, Bitrise's latest Linux machines offer a solution to this challenge.

Giving you the power to build faster

If you’re looking to increase the speed of your builds, the latest updates to Bitrise’s Linux offering definitely be of interest. This is our fastest-ever Linux machine portfolio, powered by the AMD EPYC Zen4 hardware, ready to meet your needs.

Why more performant machines improve Android app development:

  • Faster build and compilation times – Android projects often require significant compilation, especially for large apps. More powerful CPUs and more RAM speed up Gradle builds, reducing wait times.
  • Smoother Emulator performance – The Android Emulator is resource-intensive. A machine with more memory, a high-core CPU, and SSD storage ensures that the emulator runs smoothly without lag.
  • Better debugging and profiling – Running debuggers, profilers, and performance analysis tools requires processing power. A more powerful system ensures real-time debugging without lag.

Faster UI rendering and testing – Running UI tests, animations, and transitions in the Emulator or on-device is quicker on a high-performance machine.Zero hassle, high ROI

When we tested our new range of machines with our customers, the results were impressive—those who switched saw build speeds increase above 20% instantly when compiling an Android codebase.

"I see the pipeline time was reduced almost by 7 minutes! This is amazing! 👏" -- Senior Android Engineer @ N26

See the benchmarks for our usual 4, 8 and 16 vCPU Linux machine type lineup powered by the new AMD EPYC Zen4 hardware:

Machine namevCPU count, RAM sizeBenchmark (s)
M4 vCPU, 16 GB154
L8 vCPU, 32 GB126
XL16 vCPU, 64 GB116

(For benchmarking, we used the open-source Pocket Casts Android codebase with Ubuntu 22.04 for Android & Docker Bitrise stack.)

Biggest portfolio of x86 Linux machines for your CI/CD needs

Best of all, the range of available Linux capacities has been expanded to help you find the best possible fit for your speed requirements and to make it easier to scale up or down as you need to.

Machine name vCPU count, RAM size
M 4 vCPU, 16 GB
2M 6 vCPU, 24 GB
L 8 vCPU, 32 GB
4L 14 vCPU, 56 GB
XL 16 vCPU, 64 GB
3XL 24 vCPU, 96 GB
5XL 32 vCPU, 128 GB
7XL 48 vCPU, 192 GB

By adding two more options (6 and 14 vCPU), we aim to provide Bitrise users with greater flexibility and a wider range of compute capacities, helping them find their ideal balance between cost and performance. For example, the Pocket Casts Android app’s sweet spot is the 14 vCPU machine type, where there is still performance gain compared to the 8 vCPU machine.

The additional 48, 32 and 24 vCPU machine types are now the strongest Bitrise Linux machines, up to 3x stronger than our previous strongest option, to support the most complex workflows to ensure future scaling for everyone.
