Your WWDC22 guide: what to expect

Every year in San Jose, Apple Inc. holds the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), sometimes called Dub-Dub. Apple uses the conference to showcase its new software and technologies. Attendees can participate in hands-on labs with Apple engineers and attend in-depth sessions on a wide range of topics. Like last year, WWDC will be free and online with a special event to watch the keynote and Platforms State of the Union sessions at Apple Park.

Apple Keynote 🎀

In the WWDC22 Apple Keynote taking place from Apple Park, Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO will start the event with an in-depth look at updates on iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS, macOS, AirPods, Privacy, and more. The keynote starts on June 6, at 10 a.m. PT

Platforms State of the Union πŸͺ

In this session, Apple will take a deeper dive into the new tools, technologies, and advances across Apple platforms that help you create even better apps. The session will start on June 6, at 1 p.m. PT

Special event at Apple Park 🍎

To kick off WWDC22, Apple is hosting a special all-day event at Apple Park on June 6. Discover the all-new Developer Center, watch the keynote and Platforms State of the Union videos with Apple engineers and experts, and so much more.

Sessions πŸŽ₯

Throughout the rest of the week, Apple typically showcases best practices, reveals new features in greater detail, and provides a brief demo. And if you miss it, don’t worry! From June 7 to June 10, sessions and transcripts will be posted every day.

1-on-1 Developer Labs 🀝

If you encounter a bug or have a question about a specific feature, you can contact the engineers in the 1-on-1 labs. Fantastic! You could actually ask the person in charge of a specific feature. That would be fantastic. Requests will be accepted beginning June 6.

Let us now discuss the expectations. Like last year, I presume Apple will release software updates, new developer tools features, and new hardware.

Apple Design Awards πŸ†

Every year the Apple Design Awards honor games and apps which excel in categories such as Inclusivity, Delight and Fun, Interaction, Social Impact, Visuals and Graphics, and Innovation. There will be a session on June 6, at 5 p.m. PT

Development technologies πŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸ’»πŸ›

I'd like to begin with my own favorite topic: development tools and technology. I expect Apple to release version 14 of Xcode, which will include new capabilities and improvements for developers in terms of memory use and CPU usage. Also, a new version of the Swift language with new capabilities, such as the concurrency feature that was mentioned last year, could be released.

Since Apple stated last year that the TestFlight app would be coming to macOS and would be available for all users on the Mac App Store, I expect more features to be added to the app to make the beta testing process easier.

Additionally, after unveiling the beta version last year, they may announce the stable version of Xcode Cloud. Xcode Cloud is a CI/CD solution for Apple developers that is embedded into Xcode. In this piece, we compiled our thoughts on the announcement from last year.

Software announcements πŸ“± πŸ’» ⌚️

Based on recent WWDC events, I anticipate multiple software updates and new features including:

iOS 16: I expect Apple will announce a new version of iOS with significant updates to the notification system, or add new features to the focus mode. Health may also get an update. It is expected that AR/VR will be incorporated into many Apple products this year, including scanning images, creating maps, and more.

Privacy and security: iPhone has privacy features like App Tracking Transparency and Mail Privacy Protection, which help you control who sees your data. As a result, I expect new features related to privacy.Β

iPadOS 16: This will probably be the same update as iOS 16, but maybe they will add more support for the M1 chip and new multitasking features.Β

MacOS 13: Following the announcement of macOS 12 last year, Apple might announce macOS 13 with a few improvements including FaceTime, iCloud, and Safari. Possibly there will also be new features for the universal control between multiple Apple devices.Β

WatchOS 9: I anticipate new features incorporating health monitoring, sleep tracking, and other activities. I also anticipate improved overall battery performance and even Apple map updates.Β Β

tvOS 16: I expect a few upgrades to the new tvOS, including Siri and SharePlay, similar to last year.

‍

Apple usually opens the Beta Software Program to try out the new features in the next releases of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, and watchOS. If you are interested you can sign up. We expect it to drop around mid July 2022 after the WWDC.Β

Hardware announcements πŸ–₯

Last but not least, as with every WWDC, Apple hardware announcements will include new MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and possibly new models of Mac mini and Mac Studio. And, without a doubt, the iPhone 14 will follow these announcements with new features and enhancements. Aside from that, we can see a new AirPods model.

Do you think Apple will announce a new member of the M1 family? πŸ€”

I’m still thinking about what should be the model of the Apple’s chips? Till now there are different models such as the M1, M1 Pro, and M1 Max. So what will be the next one? πŸ‘€

The Apple M1 open beta is now available on Bitrise πŸ”₯

Because we value our customers and developers using our CI/CD platform, we are pleased to announce the launch of the M1 open beta wave for our customers to accelerate their builds with better performance and the fastest machines.

Finally, it will, in my opinion, be full of surprises and exciting announcements that will significantly improve our app development processes.
