If you release often or support a localized app, you know how quickly release notes can become a repetitive chore.
Creating and managing release notes for every version can take up valuable time, especially when updates are frequent. The challenge grows when your app is localized, but your release notes aren't. App stores typically require localized notes, which often leads to a lot of copy-pasting or scrambling to meet requirements in languages your team may not speak fluently.
To make this easier, we're releasing two new features in Bitrise Release Management that significantly reduce the manual effort involved.
Release Note Presets
With release note presets, you can define standardized templates that automatically apply to new versions of your app. Instead of writing notes from scratch for every release, you start with a consistent foundation.
You can now:
- Set a default release note that applies to all new releases automatically. Ideal for teams that often ship routine updates like "Bug fixes and performance improvements."
- Define presets for multiple languages. This means your fallback notes can be localized by default, helping you meet store requirements without scrambling for translations.
You still have full control to edit and customize notes for each individual release, but now you’re building on a foundation that saves time and reduces repetitive work.
Release-Level Metadata Control
While presets let you define default release notes across all versions, sometimes you need more granular control.
This update introduces flexible, per-release localization management, allowing you to fine-tune release note content exactly where and when you need to:
- Copy release note content from one localization to another within the same release. Ideal when your message is the same across multiple languages.
- Set a fallback localization to automatically fill in missing translations. This ensures every supported locale has a note, even when full translation isn't possible.
