The M4 Pro Mac mini industry shortage shouldn't affect your CI.
Apple pulled the base model from its store and discontinued the 32GB config. What's still available ships in weeks with some configs months out. Resellers are asking $979 for $599 machines and Tim Cook confirmed the constraints will last several more months. This all paints a pretty grim picture, and if your CI depends on new Mac hardware, the shortage is already in your pipeline.
Bitrise Build Hub's M4 Pro fleet hasn't experienced supply constraints, wait time, or scaling limits since launch. We own the machines in our US and EU data centres and operate every layer of the stack, from metal to build environment. While the shortage is a real concern, it's a procurement problem that we don’t have.
Why Build Hub doesn’t have this problem
We own the machines. Bitrise bought the Macs that run your builds, and they sit in our own data centres in the US and EU. We're not waiting on what Apple ships to resellers, and we're not renting capacity from a cloud provider and hoping they bought enough ahead of you. The fleet is already racked.
A shortage at the store doesn't reach your pipeline. We also run every layer above the hardware, from the metal to the build environment. That's the part that makes your builds fast and keeps them that way:
- Xcode stacks updated within 24 hours of Apple's release. No lag.
- Concurrency that scales to what you need. No surprise bills.
- Runners that pick up jobs the moment you push. Prewarmed pools, no cold starts.
- 99.9% uptime SLA, publicly tracked at status.bitrise.io.
Owning the hardware means the machines are there when you need them. Running the stack means they're fast when you use them. That's vertical integration. It's expensive and hard to run, and we chose it anyway, because the alternative is watching your builds slow down over something you didn't cause.

The fleet
M4 Pro runners build iOS apps roughly twice as fast as GitHub-hosted Mac runners. See our latest benchmark data so you can verify that claim yourself.
We run everything from M2 Pro to M4 Pro. If your team is stuck on older hardware waiting for M4 stock, you can move up today.

Daniel Gilbert, Mobile DevOps Developer at ForeFlight:
"The availability of premium macOS runners for GitHub Actions has proven to be highly beneficial. Notably, even the smaller-sized VMs exhibit a significant performance improvement, nearly 30% faster, when compared to the macOS XL GitHub-hosted runners."
Get notified about M5 Pro

Apple's M5 and M5 Pro chips are expected to be announced at WWDC in June 2026. We've been the first mobile DevOps Platform to introduce M1, M1 Max, M2 Pro and M4 Pro Apple Silicon generations. That won't change.
