How Bitrise helps Bitcoin.com keep quality high as AI doubles velocity
"We’ve barely had to change anything about our setup with Bitrise since the start, so that shows just how reliable it is."

Summary
Bitcoin.com believes cryptocurrency should be as simple and accessible as any other payment method. Its flagship Wallet app is central to that vision, putting the power of its crypto ecosystem directly in users’ hands.
As the company advances its use of AI, Bitrise has not only kept pace with surging code and build volumes, but become its trusted quality gate, ensuring every verification check happens before anything ships. This helps the team move faster without compromising the trust millions of Wallet users depend on. Next on the horizon: deepening the connection between the company’s AI tooling and Bitrise to unlock richer insights to deliver even better user experiences.
Challenge
Founded in 2014, Bitcoin.com is a global cryptocurrency services company with a simple but bold vision: to make financial freedom accessible to everyone.
Its flagship Wallet app is central to achieving that goal. Available on Android and iOS, it helps millions of users navigate the complex and ever-changing world of cryptocurrency.
“Crypto isn’t always easy for a novice user, so our goal is to make it more accessible. Our app is the main way customers interact with us and the gateway to everything else we offer across our ecosystem. Through our app we want to remove friction and reduce the knowledge gap so it feels more like using a regular payment or banking app. We’ve also built in rewards to encourage users to try other features and partner services and stay engaged.”

With cryptocurrency prone to rapid shifts in demand, Bitcoin.com needs to be ready to deliver a reliable, high-quality experience when usage peaks.
“Our growth tends to follow changes in the market. For example, during bull markets, we see strong growth in new users and higher retention. Then when we are experiencing bear markets, new users continue to join steadily, but we see retention decline as the market is less active.”

Bitrise was already deeply integrated into Bitcoin.com's mobile CI/CD workflows when Minh and Nate joined, and provided the stability the team needed as both the crypto market and its mobile strategy evolved.
“We’ve barely had to change anything about our setup with Bitrise since the start, so that shows just how reliable it is.”
Minh Nguyen, Android Lead, Bitcoin.com
For years, that stability meant the team could focus on improving the app experience without worrying about managing the infrastructure behind it. However, the rise of AI-assisted development introduced a new set of challenges.
While AI meant the team could create code significantly faster, it moved the bottleneck to other parts of the mobile development process.
“AI made it easier than ever to generate code, but that shifted the bottleneck further down the pipeline. We now spend more time reviewing and verifying that code, running all the necessary checks and making sure every build works as expected. Before AI, we released every two weeks. Now we release every week, which means twice as many releases and twice the QA and code reviews.”
Nate Dinh, Senior iOS Engineer, Bitcoin.com
The impact quickly became visible in the team’s daily workload. Before adopting AI-assisted development, Bitcoin.com would typically have around 10 to 15 open pull requests at a time. Soon 20 became the new normal. As Nate shared, “AI effectively doubled the amount of work flowing through the pipeline.”
This shift meant Bitrise needed to handle a much higher velocity of engineering work, while helping the team manage the increased verification and quality assurance that came with it.
“AI helps us ship faster and improve our engineering performance, but the real challenge is maintaining quality at the same time. That’s where a reliable CI becomes crucial.”

Solution
Bitrise CI keeps pace as AI accelerates code volume
Bitcoin.com’s mobile team now estimates that around 90% of the team’s code is written by AI, with the remaining 10% focused on manual review and verification. As the team moves faster and increases its workload, Bitrise is helping take the pressure off maintaining quality by acting as a trusted checkpoint throughout the process.
“Bitrise has become mandatory for us to maintain quality. It’s the intermediary layer where we bring together and execute all our verification checks before anything is released.”
Minh Nguyen, Android Lead, Bitcoin.com
As QA and verification become even more important at higher development volumes, Bitrise’s permanent storage has become crucial to the team, ensuring build artifacts remain available for installation and testing throughout the QA process.
“QA testing is really important to us, so having permanent storage with Bitrise is a big advantage. Other solutions, like GitHub Actions, have time limits on stored builds, which creates a real issue for us. With Bitrise, we can keep build artifacts available for users to install and our QA team to test.”
Minh Nguyen, Android Lead, Bitcoin.com
Advanced automation through Bitrise also helps the team move faster without depending on any one person to manually manage or push a release.
“With Bitrise, everything is automated, so we don’t have to depend on any individual. Someone just needs to press release, and it’s on the Play Store and App Store.”
Minh Nguyen, Android Lead, Bitcoin.com
Now, as Bitcoin.com continues to expand its use of AI, the team can rely on Bitrise to keep pace and ensure quality as code and build volumes rise.
Results
“The biggest benefit of Bitrise for us is reliability. It also gives our engineers the flexibility to do exactly what they need to do, from customising workflows and writing scripts to building the right processes for the team.”
Minh Nguyen, Android Lead, Bitcoin.com
- Reliable CI as AI code surges - Bitrise continues to keep pace and provide a reliable foundation as the team’s productivity has soared with AI, supporting 2x more frequent releases, from fortnightly to weekly alongside increased QA and code review demands.
- Stable CI with ~60% higher PR volume - Bitrise has seamlessly supported the increase from roughly 10–15 to around 20 PRs as AI accelerates development.
- A trusted quality gate - Bitrise has become a central point for quality and verification checks as more AI-generated code moves through the pipeline.
- Fully automated release workflows - automated release processes via Bitrise has removed reliance on any one single engineer to manage releases and app store delivery.
- Rapid access to Apple updates - early access to new Xcode versions helps Bitcoin’s mobile team to identify and fix issues well ahead of public releases.
The expert mobile support from Bitrise is another highlight for the Bitcoin.com team, not only in helping them navigate the increased velocity from AI but also continuing to advance and optimize their mobile setup for the future.
"It's great to have access to the Bitrise team when we want to do something beyond what we can figure out ourselves. The documentation covers most things, but sometimes the exact answer we need isn’t there, and being able to talk to someone directly has been really helpful.”

Future
Connecting Bitrise CI and AI for greater insight
In the coming years, Bitcoin.com expects crypto to become just another way to pay and its Wallet app will play a key role in bridging the adoption and knowledge gap that still exists in the space.
"Mobile will definitely continue to dominate the crypto space for at least the next five years. For us, that means continuing to raise the standard of our Wallet app, helping users of all levels manage cryptocurrency in a simple and accessible way.”
Minh Nguyen, Android Lead, Bitcoin.com
Understanding where users experience issues and friction will also continue to be for Bitcoin.com’s mobile team to make its app experience even more user-friendly and accessible. With this in mind, the team is identifying more opportunities to use AI to surface deeper insights into errors and crashes to help its engineers understand and mitigate issues faster and drive up quality.
“We’re exploring Bitrise MCP so our AI can talk directly to Bitrise, collect information automatically and become part of our AI workflow, helping us create a much more automated engineering ecosystem.”
